Controlling guest sign-in

Written by Greg Bennett

Control whether guests can sign in to OneDirectory, in Directory Console → Access → Sign-in.

What guest sign-in controls

Guests are people from outside your company who have been invited into your Microsoft 365 tenant, such as partners, contractors, or IT providers. The Guest sign-in setting controls whether they can sign in to OneDirectory.

Change the setting

  1. In the OneDirectory sidebar (your live employee directory), click Directory Console at the bottom.

  2. In the Directory Console sidebar, select Access, then open the Sign-in tab.

  3. Use the Guest sign-in dropdown to choose whether guests can sign in.

  4. Click Save Sign-in Settings to apply.

Sign-in is separate from visibility

Whether guests appear in the directory is a separate setting, controlled by your filtering rules in Data Sources → Filtering Rules. A guest can be visible in the directory but unable to sign in, and the reverse is also true.

Note A guest here means anyone whose profile type is Guest. If you have set someone's profile type to Person, this setting does not apply to them and they can sign in.
