How to set up the Dotted Line Manager field

Enable the Dotted Line Manager field to capture secondary reporting lines that render as dotted lines on your org chart.

Written by Greg Bennett

The Dotted Line Manager field captures secondary (non-direct) reporting relationships. Once enabled, dotted-line managers you add to a profile render with dotted lines on your org chart. It’s a prebuilt OneDirectory field, disabled by default, that you enable in Fields.

Enable the field

  1. In the OneDirectory sidebar (your live employee directory), click Directory Console at the bottom, or click Edit in Console in the top bar.

  2. In the Directory Console sidebar, select Fields.

  3. In the Disabled Fields list at the bottom of the page, click Dotted Line Manager.

  4. Toggle Enabled on and set the Edit Permissions.

Add a dotted-line manager to a profile

Once enabled, an editable Dotted Line Manager field appears on employee profiles. Set it on the profile itself, or in Directory Console → People by clicking the person’s row and editing the value on the Profile Details tab. The field is a Profile Picker (Multiple), so you can add more than one per person.

Note: Reporting line and dotted-line manager are editable by Administrators and Directory Editors only, never by employees on their own profiles.

How it appears on the org chart

Dotted-line managers render with dotted connecting lines on the org chart, distinguishing them from solid-line (direct) reporting.

Tip: To see how viewers use dotted lines, see How to View Dotted Lines in Your Org Chart.
