Understanding the Microsoft 365 sync schedule

How often OneDirectory syncs from Microsoft 365, hourly incremental sync, daily-refreshed fields, and per-field schedules.

Written by Greg Bennett

OneDirectory keeps your directory current by syncing one-way from Microsoft 365. This article explains how often that happens.

Hourly incremental sync

OneDirectory syncs hourly and incrementally — each sync imports only what’s changed in Microsoft 365. Updates you make in Microsoft 365 (profile details, reporting lines, and other key fields) appear in OneDirectory within the hour.

Fields refreshed once a day

A small set of fields — including photo, birthday, and aboutMe — don’t support change tracking in Microsoft 365, so they’re refreshed once every 24 hours. If another tracked field on the same profile changes in the meantime, these fields are pulled through as part of that hourly sync too.

See each field’s sync schedule

You can check how often any individual field refreshes in Directory Console → Fields — click a field to see its sync schedule in the side panel.

Tip: Need data sooner than the next scheduled sync? Run a manual sync from Directory Console → Data Sources.
