Why are New Hires or Celebrations empty on the homepage?

Fix missing people in the New Hires, Birthdays and Work anniversaries tiles by checking tile settings and Hire Date and Birthday coverage.

Written by Greg Bennett

The homepage tiles are built from profile fields. If a tile is empty, or someone you expect isn't in it, work through the checks below.

Which field each tile uses

Tile

Field it uses

New Hires

Hire Date

Celebrations: Work anniversaries

Hire Date

Celebrations: Birthdays

Birthday (day and month only)

1. Check the tile is turned on

In Directory Console → Appearance → Homepage, under Tiles, make sure New Hires, Birthdays and Work anniversaries are switched on as you want, then click Save Homepage Settings.

2. Check the time period

New Hires only lists people hired within the period you've chosen next to its toggle (Past 30, 60 or 90 days). If nobody joined in that window, the tile shows that there are no new hires. Pick a longer period if you'd like more people to show.

3. Check field coverage

If a tile's field isn't filled in for everyone, the Homepage tab shows a warning under that tile with the percentage of people who have it set. People without the field won't appear in the tile.

To see coverage in detail, open Directory Console → Fields and look at the Coverage column for Hire Date and Birthday.

4. Fill in the missing dates

  • If the field's Data Source in Fields is OneDirectory, Administrators and Directory Editors can add the date on each person's profile in Directory Console → People.

  • If the field syncs from Microsoft 365, update it in Microsoft Entra ID or the Microsoft 365 admin center. The change appears in OneDirectory after the next sync.

Note: If the whole homepage is missing rather than one tile, check that Show homepage is on in the Homepage tab.
