Customize before you launch (pre-launch checklist)

A checklist to get your directory ready before sharing it with your team — branding, org chart, fields, filtering, and data quality.

Written by Greg Bennett

Before you share OneDirectory with your team, spend a little time getting it ready. Work through this checklist in order. Everything here is done in the Directory Console, which you open with Edit in Console in the top bar of your directory, next to your profile picture.

Pre-launch checklist

  1. Add your branding — organization name, logo, and brand color, in Appearance → Branding. See How to add your corporate branding.

  2. Set up your org chart — add a chart in Org Charts, choose who it starts from, and make sure managers are populated. See How to set up your org chart.

  3. Review your fields — in Fields, decide which stay synced from Microsoft 365 and which are editable in OneDirectory. See Making a field editable and Setting field edit permissions.

  4. Filter who appears — in Data Sources → Filtering Rules, hide guests and service accounts, or limit to specific domains. See Understanding Filtering Rules.

  5. Polish offices and departments — in Structure, add images and descriptions so those pages look great. See How to add office images and How to add department images.

  6. Tidy up who’s visible — in People, hide anyone who shouldn’t appear and correct any records detected as the wrong type. See How to hide or show a specific person.

  7. Check data quality — use Profile Completeness on the Console Overview to spot thin data (photos, job titles, managers) before employees see it. See Using the Directory Console Overview page.
