Understanding employee profiles

What's on a OneDirectory profile, contact details, Teams chat, reporting lines, skills, and more.

Written by Greg Bennett

Every person in OneDirectory has a rich profile. Here’s a tour of what’s on one, laid out in three areas.

Left: photo, structure, and location

Below the profile photo you’ll find where the person sits in the organization and where they’re based:

  • Organizational structure — their Office, Department, and any custom units such as Division or Region. Each one is clickable to see everyone in it.

  • Location — their city/town, state/region, and country.

Middle: core information

The center of the profile holds the person’s key details:

  • Name and job title.

  • Contact — email, Microsoft Teams (Call in Teams or Start a chat), work phone, mobile phone, and phone extension.

  • About Me — a short bio.

  • Joined date and Birthday.

  • Skills and Hobbies & Interests — shown as clickable tags.

The exact fields shown depend on what your organization has enabled.

Right: the connections pane

The connections (people) pane shows how the person connects to others in the organization:

  • Manager and the full reporting line — expand it to trace the chain of command up to the top of the organization.

  • Direct Reports — the people who report to them.

  • Assistant — their assistant, if one is set.

  • Dotted Line Managers — secondary (non-direct) managers, if set.

Click anyone in the pane to open their profile in place, so you never lose your spot.

Note: The connections pane appears based on enabled fields — the people pane needs the Manager field, and the Assistant and Dotted Line Manager sections appear when those fields are enabled. Administrators control these in the Directory Console.
