Why can't I edit another employee's profile?

Editing others' profiles needs the Administrator or Directory Editor role, plus fields made editable in OneDirectory. Edit on the profile itself or in Directory Console → People.

Editing other people’s profiles requires the right role and editable fields.

Check your role

Only Administrators and Directory Editors can edit other people’s profiles. End Users can edit only their own profile. See Understanding Access.

Check field permissions

Even as a Directory Editor, you can only edit fields that are editable in OneDirectory with their edit permission set to Directory Editors. Synced (Microsoft 365) fields are read-only. See Setting field edit permissions.

Where to edit

There are two places you can edit someone else’s profile:

  • On the profile in your directory — open the person’s profile and edit it there, as you always have.

  • In the Directory Console — click Edit in Console in the top bar, go to People, click the person’s row, and edit the fields on the Profile Details tab. Click the Value next to a field to change it, then the green check to save or the red X to discard.

Note: Need to edit profiles but can’t? Ask an administrator to give you the Directory Editor role — see How to assign a Directory Editor.
