What happened to Edit mode?

Edit mode has been removed. All directory editing now happens in the Directory Console, opened with the Edit in Console button.

Written by Greg Bennett

Edit mode no longer exists in OneDirectory. The edit mode toggle that used to sit in the top bar has been removed and replaced by the Edit in Console button, in the same place: the top bar, next to your profile picture.

If an older guide, screenshot, or video tells you to turn on Edit mode, use the Directory Console instead. There is no toggle to switch on and no editing state to switch off.

The waffle icon and the row toggles are gone too

Edit mode was opened with a waffle icon, and it placed a toggle switch on every row of the People list so you could hide accounts straight from the list without opening anyone. All of that has been removed.

There is no waffle icon, no edit mode switch, and no per-row toggle anywhere in OneDirectory or the Directory Console. Older blog posts, screenshots and videos showing them describe a version of the product that is no longer live.

To hide or show people now, go to Directory Console → People. For one person, click their row, open Manage, then set Show in directory. For several people, tick the checkboxes on their rows and use Show in directory in the bar that appears. See How to show or hide profiles in bulk.

The eye icon on each row in the People list is a status indicator. It shows crossed out when the account is hidden. It is not a button, and clicking it does nothing. See Reading the People list in the Directory Console.

Where each task moved to

  • Hiding or showing a person: Directory Console → People, click the person's row, then the Manage tab. See How to hide or show a specific person.

  • Hiding or showing several people at once: Directory Console → People, tick their rows, then Show in directory.

  • Adding, editing, or deleting offices: Directory Console → Structure → Offices.

  • Adding, editing, or deleting departments: Directory Console → Structure → Departments.

  • Adding, editing, or deleting organizational units: Directory Console → Structure, then your unit.

  • Office, department, and org unit images: in the same Structure pages, on each item's details panel.

  • Editing someone else's profile: Directory Console → People, or directly on their profile in the directory, which works as it always has.

  • Seeing empty offices and departments: they're always listed in Directory Console → Structure. They stay hidden from the live directory until someone is assigned to them.

I can't see the Edit in Console button

The button is only shown to Administrators and Directory Editors. If you don't see it, your account is an End User.

End Users can browse the directory and edit their own profile, for the fields your administrator has made editable, but have no Directory Console access.

To get access, ask one of your OneDirectory administrators to change your role in Directory Console → Access. See How to assign a Directory Editor or How to assign an Administrator.

Note: Directory Editors see Overview, People, and Structure in the Console. Administrators additionally see Appearance, Data Sources, Fields, and Access.

How editing works now

In the Console, values are edited in place. Click the Value next to a field, change it, then click the green check to save or the red X to discard. Each field saves on its own, so there is no overall Save button and nothing to switch off when you're finished. Click Back to OneDirectory at the bottom of the Console sidebar to return to your directory.
