Directory Console → People shows every profile in OneDirectory, including the ones your directory is currently hiding. It has two sections: Synced Profiles and Managed Profiles.
Synced Profiles come from Microsoft 365. Managed Profiles are people you've added yourself who don't have a Microsoft 365 account, such as contractors or frontline staff. See How to add managed profiles.
The tabs
Synced Profiles is split into three tabs, each with a count:
People: accounts identified as employees.
Guests: accounts identified as external or guest users, whether or not the guest rule is hiding them.
Service Accounts: accounts identified as non-human, such as meeting rooms and shared mailboxes.
An account appearing on a tab does not mean it is visible in your live directory. The tabs sort by what the account is. Your filtering rules decide what people see.
If a record is on the wrong tab, you can correct it. See How to change a profile type.
The toolbar
Above each grid:
Search by name finds people by name.
All, Visible and Hidden narrow the list to profiles in that state, with a count on each.
The checkboxes
Tick the checkbox at the start of a row to select it, or the checkbox in the header row to select every profile in the list. A bar appears with the number selected, a Show in directory button and Clear. Use it to show or hide all selected profiles at once. See How to show or hide profiles in bulk.
Your selection stays in place when you search again, but switching tabs clears it.
The eye icon
The eye icon on each row shows whether the account appears in the live directory. Crossed out means hidden.
It is an indicator, not a control. Clicking it does nothing. To change whether someone appears, use the checkboxes above, or click the row, open the Manage tab and use Show in directory.
The Hidden badge
A Hidden badge next to a person's name means that account is not appearing in the directory or the org chart right now. That happens for one of two reasons: a filtering rule matched the account, or someone set it to No, always hide.
The Profiles card on the Console Overview page breaks this down, showing how many accounts are hidden by rules versus hidden manually.
No toggle switches on rows
There is no toggle switch on the rows. The switches that older guides and videos show belonged to Edit mode, which has been removed. See What happened to Edit mode?
